EpiC baTtLe

The day the battle is to be fought had finally arrived. I have been preparing myself for it. I waited till the battlefield was empty and all my loved ones were far away so that I could fight alone without endangering their lives. I was alone, surrounded by an entire army. I have fought battles before but for the first time I was fighting alone. I was up against a formidable opponent. But I was well prepared. My weapons were my only companions. The army was a minor hurdle before I faced the mighty king. The fierce battle began with the blowing of the trumpets. My bare hands, the magical cloth and the Urumi were enough to fight off the army. Everything went as planned and within an hour the entire army had been vanquished. I was pleased with the results this far. But, I knew the battle was far from over.

The final and the toughest hurdle was up ahead and I knew I would have to give it my all. I walked valiantly to the king and challenged him to a one-on-one combat. The initial moments belonged to me as I dragged the king down from his chariot. The surprised king challenged that the fight be carried out on a rougher terrain and I accepted. This time I had to choose a more powerful weapon and I chose the mighty mace of Bheem, which belonged to my forefathers. I was gearing up for the task up ahead as I knew it might last for hours. I lifted my mace with both arms and ran towards the king, but before I could bring it down, the King sent me flying in the air with a hard knock to my stomach. I lay on the ground whimpering with pain. It took me sometime to regain my strength again. The King waited patiently for me as this just seemed to be a mere child’s play to him. I got up and this time I moved more carefully. The real battle began. Blows were thrown at each other, each sounding like a clap of thunder. After a while both our maces were lost. The King realized that I was not to be taken lightly. The fight still continued, now with bare arms and legs. The sheer intensity of the fight shook the ground beneath us, trees shivered with awe and the fiercest of creatures ran for cover. Both of us fought like majestic lions fighting for their PRIDE.

There was no guessing who would win the battle. I was beginning to get exhausted and asked for some respite. The King obliged and thus came a welcome break for both of us. The battle was to be resumed at the end of 3 turns of the hourglass. I knew that I had to come up with a new strategy if I had to defeat the king but I could think of none at the moment. I began to lose hope. I remembered a story that my father had told me a long time ago and this revived my sagging spirits as I got ready to fight the last part of this battle. I did not want be a slave to this haughty King. So I ran to the battlefield and let out my war cry. I felt a slight hope of victory. I picked up my mace and brought it down harder than ever before. A mere human would’ve been beaten down to unrecognizable pulp, but he was not just a ‘mere human’. I fought him like a tyrant, sometimes lifting him high above my head and throwing him down on to the hard ground. Both of us were badly injured and weakened but the battle continued. Dust from the field arose high in the air till both of us were engulfed in it. Still we went on and on. Neither of us was willing to give in, but time took a toll on me. I could not keep up the force and my energy level was dangerously low. The king, who was a seasoned veteran at war, was able to keep me at bay. I could not beat such a person with mere force. Victory was like a mirage. I realized that I would have a chance to win only if I thought of some other strategies but that needed a lot of time, which I did not possess at the moment. So I bowed down to the great warrior and humbly accepted defeat. He climbed onto his chariot and drove away to his palace to rule the kingdom yet again. But a day will come when I will reclaim the throne which is rightfully mine.
Till then, I’ll have to continue sleeping on the floor……………

Characters:
Battleground - my bedroom
Battle with the King – Terrace
The King - Mattress
Army – my cupboard, wardrobe, computer table, etc.
Weapons – dusting cloth, broomstick and a long thick cane
Conditions during final battle – extremely windy (reason for trees to shiver and shake :D)
Creatures during final battle – neighbors who thought I was crazy to jump and beat up a mattress at 12 in the afternoon :P
Break during final battle – lunch and to watch the ‘Shawshank Redemption’ :D

(Death metal in the background courtesy Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dimmu Borgir, etc.)

(I’ve a foldable bed in my room and I haven’t slept in it for a long time because the mattress is very uncomfortable. So it is used as a dumping ground for all stuff which does not have space elsewhere. I decided to clean the bed and dust the mattress.)

I think you should give it to the Paper.
May be a magazine because papers have confined themselves to a set of things.

Awesome going.

Good luck
